The Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name

Fr. Dennis homily from last Sunday. Fr. Dennis began with this:

"The Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name. If you have ever really prayed for something, this story is for you. If you have ever grieved for someone who died a tragic death, this story is for you. And if you believe in the resurrection, this story is for you."

Beautiful story about how God listens to our prayers. It is a true story that happened to Fr. Dennis.

Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe

Fr. Dennis talks about the Feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

After Our Lady appeared to Juan Diego, 12,000,000 million people converted. Canada could use a conversion of hearts from Our Lady. Especially as it regards Canada's culture of death for the unborn.

I found this Novena prayer, and made a few changes to it for Canada.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, we turn to you who are the protector of unborn children and ask that you intercede for us, so that we may more firmly resolve to join you in protecting all human life. Let our prayers be united to your perpetual motherly intercession on behalf of those whose lives are threatened, be they in the womb of their mother, on the bed of infirmity, or in the latter years of their life. 

May our prayers also be coupled with peaceful action which witnesses to the goodness and dignity of all human life, so that our firmness of purpose may give courage to all Canadians. 

Encourage all Canadians, especially our politicians, to walk closely with God and to give voice to the cry of the oppressed, in order to remind our nation of the sanctity of life for all people, especially the unborn. 

O Virgin Mother of God, present our petitions to your Son and ask him to bless us with abundant life. Amen. 

God's yoke - being tied to Jesus

"Take My yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

Fr. Dennis gives a beautiful description of this verse. I now finally understand this verse because of his explanation.

Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola - why we were created

Today is the Feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Below is the Principal and Foundation by St. Ignatius that Fr. Dennis reads at Mass. It is from the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.

PRINCIPLE AND FOUNDATION

Human beings are created to praise, reverence, and serve God our Lord, and by means of doing this to save their souls. 

The other things on the face of the earth are created for the human beings, to help them in the pursuit of the end for which they are created. 

From this it follows that we ought to use these things to the extent that they help us toward our end, and free ourselves from them to the extent that they hinder us from it. 

To attain this it is necessary to make ourselves indifferent to all created things, in regard to everything which is left to our free will and is not forbidden. Consequently, on our own part we ought not to seek health rather than sickness, wealth rather than poverty, honor rather than dishonor, a long life rather than a short one, and so on in all other matters.  

Rather, we ought to desire and choose only that which is more conducive to the end for which we are created.

Wise words from Fr. Dennis

Fr. Dennis has a gift. He has a gift of talking about the Gospel and making it real to the listener. His weekday homilies always gives us practical understanding of the readings. They are well worth listening to.

Fr Dennis Homily today and trusting in God. On suffering and the "Permissive Will of God." God wants to make saints of us. In the parable of the pearl, God wants to cover the grain of sand or pebble with his Grace. God wants us to trust in him, so we will grow in Faith and Holiness. Grace will suffice for the day.

How the Lord helps us do what we can't do on our own

Fr. Dennis homily from today.

"The Lord takes us farther than we can go on our own. The gifts that we receive from the Lord help us do things we can't do on our own human power. Lord do for me what we can't do on our own..."

Yep I can relate to that.

Fr. Dennis also tells us to have patience with the Lord and to trust in him.

He also talks about St. Athanasius. This from Catholic online about this saint.

"His refusal to tolerate the Arian heresy was the cause of many trials and persecutions for St. Athanasius. He spent seventeen of the forty-six years of his episcopate in exile. After a life of virtue and suffering, this intrepid champion of the Catholic Faith, the greatest man of his time, died in peace on May 2, 373. St. Athanasiuswas a Bishop and Doctor of the Church."

The grace to carry out God's will

Today is Good Friday.

On my walk this morning it was so quiet out. Unlike most Fridays with cars zipping by on their way to work, there was hardly anyone on the roads. It was eerie.

Today is Good Friday. The day that Jesus was crucified and put to death for our sins. A sobering thought.

The reason we have a statutory holiday today, is due to our Judeo-Christian heritage in Canada. The entire country observes this day. But I wonder how many people actually think about why it is they don't have to go to work today. It seems strange that many people enjoy the day off, while not even believing in God anymore.

St. Josephat - uniting the Orthodox with the Catholic faith

Yesterday was the Feast day of St. Josephat. This is Fr. Dennis's beautiful homily on this martyr, and about this saint's wish to unite the Orthodox with Catholics.

 

Fr. Dennis also talks about uniting people within the Church itself. How this has something to do with humility. How we are always waiting for the other person to change. Maybe we need to change and take the first step ourselves. About showing charity, understanding and patience to the other.

 

Fr. Dennis says that we might want to pray for the grace to take this first step. To bring about reconciliation, unity and healing in the Body of Christ.
