Canada has ceased to be a Christian nation

From the parish priest at Mass yesterday at St. Edward the Confessor in North York.

The Jesuit theologian Karl Rainer (1904-1984) famously said “the Christian of the future will be a mystic or will not exist.” The priest likened this to mean that for people without a personal experience of God, Christianity will cease to exist. This seems to haves come to pass in Canada.

Some countries support the religion of the people. Pakistan supports the Muslim religion. India supports the Hindu religion. Russia supports the Russian Orthodox religion. The Philippines supports the Catholic religion. But Canada does not support the Catholic religion. It did at one time, but not anymore. The culture does not carry us. It is now up to our Christian communities to carry us.

Saint Michael the Archangel

There's never been a better time to say the St. Michael prayer every day.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the divine power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Feast of the Transfiguration in Lanark Ontario

This morning we went into Lanark for Mass. The Church is Sacred Heart of Jesus the same church Fred and I were married in 44 years ago this year.

I have no wedding pictures in front of the Church. This makes me sad. At least now I have a picture of the church.

It was a beautiful Mass. A bunch of kids were there and they had a beautiful choir. Some of their songs included Latin. There was incense and I received Holy Communion under both species of Body and Blood.

It was a beautiful Mass. A total dainty.

Angels are our protectors against evil

I am saying this Chaplet everyday now to combat evil. All the angels are our protectors. The nine choirs of angels: Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominations, Powers, Virtues, Principalities, Archangels, Angels:
The Chaplet of St. Michael

This is depressing but bears scrutiny. We ignore evil at our peril:

And from Romans, text below:
Romans 1:18-32
God's Wrath on Unrighteousness
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,[a] in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.32 Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

A first for Madagascar

Today Fr. Hasina defended his doctoral thesis at St. Paul's University in Canon Law for property rights in Madagascar. So glad it was him and not me.

He had friends, directees, and brother Jesuits there to cheer him on. Fr. Hasina did an excellent job and will receive his Doctorate in Canon Law.

Fr. Hasina will be the first Malagasy Jesuit doctor in Canon Law. Congratulations Fr. Hasina!
